Summary
- You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name to use the converter.
- The amounts you convert are worked out in your browser. We don't store them.
- We don't set cookies, and we don't sell personal information.
- If you contact us, we use your details only to reply.
1. Who we are
RateDay, at ratebyday.com, is run by an individual based in the United States ("we", "us"), who is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at [email protected] or through our contact page.
2. Information we collect
When you use the converter
Conversions happen in your browser, and the amounts you enter are not sent anywhere. To draw the history chart, your browser asks Frankfurter for the currency pair you picked (for example USD to EUR), but not the amount. To make links shareable, the page address can include the currencies and amount (for example ?from=USD&to=EUR&amount=100). If you load or share that address, it is handled like any other web address, including in the server logs described below.
Technical information
As on most websites, the server that delivers our pages may automatically record basic information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, browser type and version, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time. We use these logs only to keep the site secure and working.
When you contact us
If you write to us, by email or through the contact form (which opens your own email app), we receive your name if you give it, your email address, the topic you choose and what you write. Messages are kept in the [email protected] mailbox.
3. Services your browser connects to
To show the page, your browser connects directly to the services below. Each one receives your IP address and basic browser information as part of the connection and handles it under its own privacy policy.
| Service | Why | Address |
|---|---|---|
| Frankfurter | Loads the latest rates and the history for the currency pair you pick | api.frankfurter.dev |
4. Cookies and local storage
We don't set cookies. We save one setting in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it next time:
| Name | Purpose | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
rd-theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme | You clear it in your browser |
This setting stays on your device and is never sent to us. Because it is only used for a feature you ask for, it doesn't require consent under the ePrivacy rules. If we add any other cookies or similar technology, we will update this section first.
5. How we use information
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, data protection law requires us to have a legal basis for each use:
- Running and securing the site (server logs): our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website.
- Replying to you (contact messages): our legitimate interest in answering questions you send us, or taking steps you ask for.
- Meeting legal obligations: where a law requires us to keep or disclose information.
We don't use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decisions.
6. Sharing
We don't sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the providers named in this policy, who process it on our behalf, and with authorities when the law requires it.
7. International transfers
RateDay is run from the United States. If you write to us from another country, your message is transferred to and stored in the United States. Frankfurter may also process connection information outside your country under its own policy.
8. How long we keep it
- Server logs: no longer than 30 days.
- Contact messages: 12 months after our last reply, unless we need them longer to deal with a complaint or legal claim.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- send your information to you or another organisation in a usable format.
To make a request, choose "Privacy request" on our contact page or email [email protected]. We will reply within one month. If you live in the UK or the EU, you also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.
California residents: we don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we don't use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
10. Children
RateDay is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and access to logs and messages is limited to the person who runs RateDay. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the home page for a reasonable period.
Questions about this policy: [email protected].
